The smooth, silver box sat on the windowsill. Morning light streaming though the windowpanes fell against it, reflecting a bright arch on the ceiling. Curious, Viggo lifted the lid on its hinges and stared. Inside were three gold bands. He paused, wanting to touch, but feeling that he shouldn’t.
He noticed the lid’s mirror inlay, saw Sean’s reflection in the glass, watching.
Viggo closed the lid, returned to bed, wrapped Sean in his arms.
“Hard to let go, sometimes,” he said.
Against his shoulder, Sean nodded.
“We’re okay, you know.”
Sean nodded, Viggo kissed his temple and held on tight.
