I'm sorry to know all those sites have disappeared. I came on the HMR scene a few years too late! I so miss the fansites and the LiveJournal community I used to be a part of. In the early 2000's I was in the sort of 'golden age' of Lord of the Rings (movie) fandom, and rolling off that, Actor 'slash'. What heady days! And that was largely such totally positive, encouraging community where you were given such great feedback and there was a free exchange of ideas. All those communities seem to have faded away. Maybe there are some out there for more current fandoms, but it seems most just post to A03, there's not much in the way of community anymore.
I think after I sort of moved from LOTR, the next biggest fandom was Hawaii 5-0, the CBS reboot. I think that fanbase is still active, but again, there's no community other than what you get on A03 that I know of.
