I’m posting this pic because I think it’s the cutest thing evah! Jeesh. Am nearly tempted to write het! Pic courtsey of [livejournal.com profile] bean_daily

As for the movie, I quite enjoyed it! Just a few thoughts (and SPOILERS)

All right, anyone who reads this journal with any regularity knows what’s coming right off... Beany was kickin’. By that I mean, the man looked so completely hot. Woot! Well, now that the predictable is over, I did enjoy the movie. The things I liked:

The plane: I love visually interesting sets, and this one looked really cool and slick, but believable, and really seemed to become a character in its own right.

The tension. This flick begins with it, and managed a good job at keeping it rolling. At least for me it did.

Jodie (Kyle Pratt): as with most of her performances I’ve seen, she brings and intelligence and intensity to her role. No different here, and as a mother who has awakened to find her child missing, her reactions struck me as believable without becoming shot after shot of hysterics and tears. As things move along and she even begins to doubt her own perceptions, she thinks her way through it, and ultimately follows her own heart.

Bean (Capt. Rich): Oh, I can’t really be objective, can I? *g* But I thought the scenes he had were well played. He and Jodie seemed to have fine chemistry and I think he portrayed the captain very well as a man who sympathizes with Kyle, but at the same time knows where his ultimate responsibilities lie and is more than capable of taking the appropriate steps to see to it those responsibilities are met. And he looked pretty damned good with short hair and that captain’s uniform. Woot!

The creepiness/weirdness: this movie pretty much begins with the feeling that everything is not quite as it seems. The atmosphere is dark and gloomy until Kyle and her daughter boards the plane and even from there is retained as the plane is kept muted for the sleeping passengers. And every scene with the Dad’s casket was just spooky.

Every scene Jodie and Sean had together: from the first moment of their meeting, to that lovely final one where he tells her he was sorry. I loved that particular moment between them. In fact, I’d love to see these two in another movie together!

Things I, not so much didn’t like, but was disappointed in:

Bean: I was hoping he’d have a bit more scenes and a more active role in events...but then I wish that for all the flicks he’s in... well, except for Sharpe. *g*

Peter Sasrsgaard (Air Marshal) : I think it didn’t help that I went in knowing that he was an air marshal, though I just wasn’t surprised at all when it was revealed he was the big bad guy. I don’t think it was due so much as to his performance, but I just wasn’t surprised. In fact, I was more surprised that the pretty, big eyed flight attendant (sorry don’t remember character or actress’ name) was part of the plot.

The payoff: So it was all about money. And yeah, money is the great motivator, but I would’ve preferred some other motivation for the events leading up to the ending. 90% of the movie felt creepy and tense, I would’ve liked a more complex, out of the ordinary reason for all of that. And too, the fact that Kyle walks away from the plane, child in hand, wouldn’t just disarmed the situation. As far the SWAT or FBI or whoever was waiting to nab her knew, she was still a hijacker, or at least a suspected hijacker.

All in all, I’d give this one 3 out or 5 stars! Though I suspect this is one of those flicks that is never as good as the first viewing...well, except maybe for the Bean factor. I’m sure that’d only get better. *g*
