Boromir drabble

Found this today, was written just after I'd seen FOTR and had fallen in love with Boromir, and was rapidly falling in love with A/B and though I'd forgotten all about this little drabble, I remember exactly the movie moment that inspired it: Boromir on his knees, shot through with arrows and taking a breath, bracing himself maybe, he just faces that bastard orc Lurtz, gives him this *look*. *sigh* No wonder I can't watch those scenes without bawling. The Bean is so good.

Title: Empty
Rating: PG
Pairing: None
Summary: Boromir, at the end, facing Lurtz alone.
Disclaimer: I claim no ownership of any of JRR Tolkien or New Line Cinema/Peter Jackson’s works or characters.
Feedback: yes please, if moved to do so.

His hope had gone, leaving only despair and shame behind. How could he have been so blind? Were not his intentions pure?

There were no answers, only pain and emptiness inside, an emptiness that would now never be filled. It was over and the only wish he had left, aside of that for the triumph for his people, was that finally, at long last, he might find some shred of peace.

Peace, how undeserving he was of it, yet how he longed for it.

The shadow of the foul orc fell upon him, and Boromir lifted his chin and glared.

Auuugh! You have this exactly, but it's so painful! I'm so glad Aragorn got there in time!

I'm glad Aragorn arrived when he did too, (though five mins sooner would've been even better) he's certainly handy to have around in situations like this isn't he? *g* Thanks for reading!

it crossed my mind to post this to bean_squee but this is less squee and more sad, what do you think?

Post it, put the sadness warning on it. I don't think Bean Squee means that you can only post happy squeeing, I think it's anything that reminds us of the incredible talent that is Sean Bean, and Boromir's death scene certainly qualifies!

Very true! Will post with sadness warning. Thanks, and *hugs* well, just because. :)

ps: I have something you might get a kick out of. A friend of mine challenged me to make take a photo of Boromir and elf-alize him, photo manip. him as an elf that is, and I've just finished with it. Drop me a note if you'd like to take a peek. ;)

YES! YES! You can always send me such things unsolicited!

And {{{hugs}}} back!

Always believe that Boromir resembles a Shakespearean tragic hero. And the scene of Amon Hen made me cry my eyes out, no matter how many times I've seen it. *sniffles* Am too sappy to handle angst....that's why I can't write A/B.

Thanks for sharing it. *cuddles drabble and Archet*

I can usually hold out until Boromir says "Leave it. It is over over." 'bout then the waterworks start. :P

Oh, but there's always sappy A/B!

Thanks for sharing it. *cuddles drabble and Archet*

Thank you for the f/b, and the cuddles. Cuddles are good. ;)

*sniffles*
I wouldn't hold out for that long. I usually started when Boromir got hit by the first arrow, dropped and back on his feet to fight, then a second arrow, dropped again and back on his feet again, and a third arrow.......the whole sequence of slow motion with the background music is too powerful! And Sean is so good in portraying how Boromir mustering all his remorse and pain and shame and honor and braveness in this fierce fighting scene. *sighs*

A/B is too much angst for me. Sometimes I couldn’t put myself to read, not to mention write!

*hugs*

I love this moment of the film, even if I find it intensely painful, and you've caught it so well. Sigh.

Hey, I actually started the A/B/A piece tonight. Interestingly, while waiting for Bjork to come onstage at an outdoor concert. Can I interest you in betaing? Though it'll likely be a week or two before I have anything complete.

[identity profile] archet.livejournal.com 2003-09-04 02:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, they are so painful but I'm really attached to those scenes, that's where I fell completely in love with Boromir. Thanks so much for reading.

Are you kidding? I'd love to read it! Have never beta'ed for anyone before, so am not sure how qualified I am in that area, but I'd love to read it. I already said that didn't I? *g* Please do send it along whenever you'd like, I'm glad you've decided to go ahead with it. ;)

And stories *do* strike at the oddest of moments, don't they?

Me too, in the books as a kid, and all over again with Sean's performance.

As for the beta, pointing out anything that doesn't work would be appreciated. (Or assurance that I'm not on crack, if you think it does work. *g*) Once I get it done, of course. I'll keep ya posted.

I can do that. *g*

Sounds good, will be looking forward to it. ;)
