Thankfully south_haven is back up, as you know. :)

I went to the avatar folder, saved the Elf pic to my desktop, then went to my control panel, clicked on 'Browse', selected the pic that I saved on my computer and then uploaded it to my Otherworlds avatar...it seems to be working now. I guess you should try again and maybe it will cooperate now, if you have any more problems with it let me know.
